Oak Manor's Apple Crunch

Source: Mennonite Community Cookbook

An old fashioned favourite. Serve warmed with ice cream.

Always use organic ingredients where possible for flavour and nutrition.

Variation: Use Oak Manor 7-grain cereal in place of the oat flakes for a multi-grain experience.

Ingredients:

¼ tsp. baking soda

¾ cup Brown sugar

1 tsp. Cinnamon

¼ cup melted butter

¾ cup Oak Manor Organic Oat Flakes

1 quart peeled and sliced apples, grown locally at Birtch Farms & Estate Winery

1/8 tsp. sea salt or salt

1 cup sugar

1 Tbsp. Oak Manor Organic Unbleached Cake and Pastry Flour

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Pare and slice the apples.

Combine the 1 cup sugar, salt, cinnamon, and flour and sprinkle over the apples.
Put apple mixture in the bottom of a greased baking dish.

Combine the oat flakes, brown sugar and soda.
Add melted butter and rub into oat flake mixture to make crumbs.

Place the crumbs on top of the apples, patting them down evenly.

Bake at 375F for approx. 40 minutes.
